Weird Word Wednesday

Word
Definition

A sound or a combination of sounds, or its representation in writing or printing, that symbolizes and communicates a meaning and may consist of a single morpheme or of a combination of morphemes.

Today's weird word is:

 Fugacious

 Adj

Definition: Fleeting

This seems like such a strange word. I can't imagine ever using it in a sentence without laughing. The definition makes an odd kind of sense if you think of the slang word, fuggedaboutit. Forgetting it = fleeting thought.
What do you think?

  1. It does, with your assistance, make a kind of sense. It is still a flugly word though, and I don't plan on adopting it any time soon.

    1. It's too fugly to adopt, EC, and thank you for reminding me of yet another word I should have mentioned...one that I DO use! :D

  3. Definitely a $5 pretentious word. But I think I've actually seen this word someplace. Maybe in Fuggy's Bar....

  4. Yes, it makes perfect sense now that you've explained it with your logic. All right then, I can say I've honestly never used that word. Perhaps I'll try to work it in today.

  6. I had a fugacious thought
    And then it was gone.
    Gone to rest.
    Gone, I say,
    Nothing more, nothing less.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. I have to admit, Mike, your poem blows me away. I never thought that word could be used in any kind of sentence but it works well here - and made me smile at the same time. :D

  8. I would assume someone was writing the abbreviation for adjective if I saw it in a sentence.

    1. I do have Adj up there because it is an adjective but the actual word is Fugacious, Mary. ;)
